Visible Light Transmission (VLT) measures the light that passes through glass, so the lower the VLT percentage, the darker the film. Current Victorian regulations (commonly referred to as Darkest Legal) allow for 20% VLT for windows located behind the driver and 35% for driver and front passenger side windows.
Some Automotive companies release vehicles with darkened glass in the rear of the cars. It is dyed glass installed by the manufacturer therefore giving occupants more privacy, therefore often referred to as ‘Privacy Glass’. Privacy glass will not give you the heat or glare reduction that window film does.
Unfortunately not all people choose a reputable tinting company and they get cheap imported window film applied to their vehicle and they’re surprised about it failing. Remember cheap does not necessarily mean quality! We have removed and replaced failing window film from plenty of cars over the years. Bubbling, peeling and/or discolouration of tint is a sign of a very low quality window film and can cause poor driver visibility and is recommended to be rectified professionally.
Tint FX prides itself on professionally installing reputable brands of automotive window film known for their quality, colour stability and patented scratch resistant coating. The window films we offer our customers are durable and virtually maintenance free withstanding the elements for the lifetime of your vehicle so you can be assured a quality product. As a family owned and operated business we want to ensure your complete satisfaction. That’s why we offer a lifetime warranty on automotive films and workmanship.
Still not sure? Read through some of most common questions and answers below.
We only install reputable and technology leading window films therefore we offer a lifetime warranty on all automotive window film. Residential or commercial window film applications will have between seven years and a lifetime warranty depending on the film used.
Warranties for window film cover most potential defects such as demetalisation, peeling, bubbling, delaminating and colour change. The warranty does not cover accidental or personal damage to the window film.
IR refers to Infrared Energy. Sunlight is made up of approx. 53% IR energy 44% visible light and 3% UV. So if a window film is claiming to block 95% IR, it needs to be noted that only 95% of the 53% IR Energy is being rejected. IR values only contribute to a portion of the total heat being rejected. We recommend not to wind down windows for at least 48 hours after installation. It is also important not to clean the glass during the drying period, normally 21 days.
Window films are mostly applied to the inside of the glass. However there are some specifically designed window films that can be applied externally. A professional installer will recommend the best film for the job.
Absolutely! We even have a secure key drop if you wish to leave or pick up your car out of business hours. Simply ring us to make arrangements to make the process as convenient as possible.
Yes we can. The removal of existing window film should be left to a professional to avoid damage to the rear demister.
Due to the curing period after installation, we recommend to refrain from cleaning tinted windows for 30 days after installation. After this time, you can clean your windows using non-abrasive paper towels or cotton cleaning cloths. To avoid scratching the film, do not use scouring pads or abrasive cloths.
A slightly hazy or milky appearance may be noticed after install. Don’t panic! This is completely normal and part of the drying or curing process and will disappear in time. It may take longer to disappear in the colder months and we suggest to put your vehicle in the sun to speed up the process.
Depends on the vehicle and how many windows there are but generally we suggest to allow three hours from start to finish for installation.
The cost of having your car tinted will depend on which automotive window film you select and the size of your vehicle. Contact us for a quote and if you’re getting super cheap quotes from elsewhere, there’s often a reason as to why and it may end up costing you more in the long run!
